Outreach Program

  Davinci Program for High-School Teachers

About: To help post-elementary schools integrate elemental engineering into the classroom, UConn School of Engineering developed the da Vinci Project geared toward math, science and technology teachers of grades 5-12. Dr. Sun hosted the BME track of the program In July 2010. Dr. Sun presented to the teachers an overview of BME teaching and research activities at UConn, as well as the outreach programs such as BME Explore Engineering (E2) YESS program. The teachers were invited to perform hand-on biomechanics experiments that were part of the undergraduate lab courses, such as aortic root inflation tests and arterial wall residual stress tests. How to effective integrate the state-of-the-art biomechanics education into the high school classroom was discussed.
